1/11/11

11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.Another 1/11 = Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Read where the one, one, one, one, one depiction of this date, January 11th, 2011, is a once this century occurrence.  It presents a charming mathematical symmetry.  Special enough for me to stumble on its commentary on line.

What about tomorrow?  What can tomorrow be without the math magic?  How about yesterday?

It is just a day.  But, aha.  We live our entire lives from our rising to resting.  We live our whole lives in days – one day at a time.  The whole of our living is just one day.  Think about it.

Addicts get it.  Addicts know they must live just one day at a time.  Terminal patients – cancer, heart or kidney.. you name it – know to live just one day at time.  Yet, when we assume tomorrow will come – cue the theme from “Annie” – we can blow off a day.  Muck through a day.  Piss off a day.

But, one day at a time matters.  West Point Chaplain James Ford preached to my class at the end of our first day, July 1st, 1968.  His message was, “This too shall pass.”  And so Beast Barracks did, West Point did, Army life did, my parents did, children at home did, my best dog did, and on.

So, a day – and life – did for the victims in Tucson and every other person who passed away.  They have an eternity elsewhere, but no more days here.  No more days that can be counted, measured, planned, or blown off.

Tomorrow is a new day.  A day made brand new by the one, only, true, living God.  A day that is the day the Lord hath made.  We will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 116).

Every day is a day to share every thought, word and deed with God through a personal relationship with Lord Jesus Christ.  That sharing = pray without ceasing.

Tomorrow is the day to praise the Lord at the moment upon rising from sleep.

At every eating of food and drinking of nourishment, praise the Lord.

Before speaking to every person, asking the Lord for words.

Upon seeing every person, asking the Lord to let the eyes of your heart see them in lovingkindness.

Even in the worst of things a day can bring.  Even in awful tragedy like a madman’s murders in Tucson.

With complete confidence that your brother, your best friend and your adopted, perfect father are listening to your every word.

1/11/11 is a special day.  Preceded and followed by special days.  One day is everything.
