What the Bible Said

As the deer panteth for the water

Here below is what the Bible said to me today.  From the One Year Chronological Bible, New Living Translation,  House Publishing, Inc.

July 4th, was Psalms 42, 43,44,45,46

Psalm 42

  • “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.”  This was the verse used for the eulogy for my uncle Stanley Bowden.   Uncle Snookie.  Veteran of the 34th Infantry Division in Italy in WW II.  He was our bachelor uncle until he got married at age 65.  His courtship of his beloved was beautiful.   Then, he got a disease like legionnaire’s disease and died 100 days after getting married.
  • The Good Lord, Holy Father, and I had a number of discussions about this.  Why did this devout Christian son of His only get 100 days of married bliss?  Was this some kind of cosmic joke?  I didn’t find it amusing.  Then, He answered me.
  • What is the most wonderful, intense joy you ever felt in your life?  How long did it last?  The afterglow may have been a day or days, but the actual moment was really just a minute or a few.  Think about it.   Your memory is of seconds that transcended anything else you can remember.
  • So, if Snookie actually had that for 100 days, it may actually equal all the rapturous moments of a 50 year marriage.
  • And, those best of the best sweet moments in life pale in comparison to Heaven.   So, being in the presence of the Lord makes it all okay.  Really.
  • Then, do the math.  Comparing the best, most perfectly wonderful 50 year marriage to infinity is nothing.   Comparing 10o days to infinity is the same result.   Infinity is a really long time of wonderful, incredible, awesome peace beyond understanding and joy that knows no bounds.  “Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”

Psalm 43.

  • Again, no matter what “Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”

Psalm 44.

  • Deeply aware of the sin of the Nation and God’s righteous judgment and punishment against Israel , there is an appeal for help.  “Rise up and help us; redeem us because of your unfailing love.”

Psalm 45.

  • A song of praise on a wedding day.  David’s dynasty, “I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever.”

Psalm 46

  • The fearless trust in God.  “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging .”
  • “Be still and know that I am God;
  • I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
  • The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”   Listen carefully, Pagan Human Secularists and Muslims alike.   The God of the Christians and Jews lives.

  1. Thanks for posting this. Whenever I’m seriously down, somehow turning to Psalms always makes it that much better. Psalms 42 is a good one.
